Woman Reveals How Manchester United’s Losses Earned Her Beatings at Home
A woman has revealed how Manchester United’s defeats became a source of fear in her marriage, saying her husband would beat her whenever his football team lost.
Recounting her experience, she said her husband once punched their television after his team lost a match. When she wondered what they would watch after he damaged the TV, he turned his anger on her.
“Is it your father’s TV? Did your father bring any television to this house?” she recalled him asking.
She said she kept retreating as the confrontation continued, with the experience leaving her hating Manchester United because of the beatings she says she endured whenever the club lost.
The woman told her pastor that even today, Manchester United’s defeats remind her of the violence she experienced in her marriage.
“Even up to today, when there’s a football match and Man U loses, I’m like, ‘Hi God, thank God. Today would have been a beating day,’” she said.
She added that her son knows about the experience, and the two sometimes laugh about it when they remember what happened.
For her, a Manchester United defeat is a reminder of a painful past when, she says, her husband’s anger over football results would turn into violence against her.
