Questions Emerge Over Alleged Unpaid Car Bills Following Wicknell Chivayo’s Death
Zimbabwean car dealers are reportedly facing uncertainty over millions of dollars in unpaid vehicle bills following the death of businessman Wicknell Chivayo, raising questions about how suppliers will recover money owed to them.
Chivayo, who was known for purchasing and gifting expensive vehicles, reportedly placed large orders with several dealerships in Harare. Following his reported death in a helicopter crash on September 30, 2026, some dealers are now said to be struggling to reconcile outstanding payments for vehicles already supplied.
Car Dealers Face Uncertainty Over Wicknell Chivayo’s Unpaid Debts
According to reports, the outstanding balances could run into millions of US dollars, although the total amount owed has not been independently established.
The vehicles reportedly supplied included Toyota Fortuners, Toyota Aquas, Land Cruisers and other luxury models. Some orders involved multiple vehicles, requiring dealerships to organise stock to meet demand.
Reports indicate that some dealers had become accustomed to receiving payments within approximately two months. The uncertainty surrounding outstanding balances has therefore raised concerns about the financial impact on businesses that supplied the vehicles.
However, the exact amount owed to individual dealerships and the number of affected businesses remain unclear.
Unpaid Luxury Car Orders Raise Questions After Chivayo’s Death
Questions have also emerged over luxury vehicles Chivayo reportedly announced as gifts shortly before his death, including a Lexus GX 550 and a Range Rover Sport Autobiography.
Reports have raised concerns about the payment arrangements for these vehicles and whether all the transactions had been completed before his death.
It remains unclear how much of the reported outstanding debt the dealers may ultimately fail to recover. The settlement of any valid claims will depend on the individual transactions and the applicable estate administration process.
For the affected Zimbabwean car dealers, the immediate concern is determining who will settle the outstanding bills and whether they will recover the money owed for vehicles already supplied.
