Ruto Pledges KSh200 Million to Connect Water to Homes in Ukambani
President William Ruto has pledged KSh200 million to help bring water from the Mbiuni water project to residents’ homes, saying access to water is key to improving lives in Ukambani.
Speaking in Mbiuni, Machakos County, Ruto said the money would be provided in the next budget to extend water supply to households.
“Katika bajeti yetu inayofuata mwezi ujao tutawapatia milioni 200 ya kusukuma sasa hii maji iende manyumbani kwenu,” Ruto told residents.
The President said the people of Machakos, Kitui and Makueni were hardworking, but needed reliable water to support their daily lives.
“Dawa ya Ukambani ni maji,” he said, arguing that improved water supply would help residents run their homes and livelihoods.
Ruto also said the government had established a National Infrastructure Fund to finance major projects, including dams and water supply systems.
He added that two dams in Ukambani were on the priority list for the first 12 dams planned under the programme.
The KSh200 million pledge is intended to help move water from the project to residents’ homes. However, the funding is yet to be confirmed as released, with Ruto saying it would be provided through the next budget.
