An 18-year-old woman was arrested at Ruai Police Station after officers allegedly discovered pliers and a pair of shears hidden underneath a plate of rice and meat she had brought for three remanded suspects.
What appeared to be an ordinary prison visit quickly turned into a suspected jailbreak plot after police officers at Ruai Police Station searched food brought to three suspects in custody.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Christine Njoki Gitau, 18, arrived at the station carrying a plate of rice and meat, reportedly intending to deliver the meal to three friends being held at the station.
The three suspects have been identified as Emmanuel Bosire, Ismael Arisa and Brian Gatheru.
Police allege that the trio were being held over a separate investigation involving an anonymous TikTok account that was allegedly used to lure young women into meetings, where they were reportedly robbed and sexually assaulted.
The situation took an unexpected turn when officers inspecting the food allegedly found a pair of pliers and shears concealed beneath the meal.
According to investigators, the tools were suspected to have been intended to help the three suspects break out of custody.

Gitau was subsequently arrested as police began investigating how the tools ended up inside the station and whether other people were involved in the alleged plan.
The discovery meant that what was presented as a simple meal delivery had potentially become an attempt to facilitate an escape from lawful custody.
The DCI has warned that helping a person escape, or attempting to facilitate an escape from lawful custody, is a criminal offence and said those found involved would face legal action.
Investigations into the alleged jailbreak attempt are ongoing.
