A 26-year-old woman was arrested at Buruburu Police Station after police allegedly found 12 rolls of bhang, including five hidden inside a loaf of bread.
A routine visit to a boyfriend in police custody took an unexpected turn after officers allegedly discovered rolls of bhang hidden deep inside a loaf of bread she had brought for him.
The 26-year-old woman, identified as Bernice Achieng, had visited her boyfriend at Buruburu Police Station and asked officers at the report office to pass the bread to him.
However, the unsealed package reportedly raised suspicion, prompting officers to inspect its contents.
Inside the loaf, police say they found five rolls of bhang and a matchbox concealed within the bread.
The search did not end there.
Officers reportedly searched Achieng further and allegedly recovered another seven rolls of bhang from the pocket of her jacket, bringing the total recovered to 12 rolls.
Achieng was subsequently taken into custody, with the recovered items secured as exhibits. She is expected to be arraigned in court.
Thika Motorcycle Chase Ends in Crash, 300 Rolls of Bhang Recovered
In a separate incident in Thika, police arrested a suspected drug peddler after a motorcycle chase through Kairi, Thika West, ended in a crash.
Police said the rider, identified as John Mwangi, alias “Bombay,” was carrying a large consignment of suspected bhang when he encountered a police roadblock.
Mwangi and his female passenger allegedly attempted to evade the officers, speeding away on the motorcycle.
Their escape, however, came to an abrupt end near Ree Supermarket after the rider reportedly lost control of the motorcycle while negotiating a speed bump.
The motorcycle crashed, allowing the female passenger to escape into the crowd.
Mwangi was arrested at the scene.
A subsequent search of his cargo reportedly led to the recovery of 300 rolls of bhang and an additional three kilograms of the suspected narcotic, wrapped in yellow polythene and strapped to the motorcycle seat.
Mwangi remains in custody at Kimuchu Police Station as police process the case ahead of his expected arraignment.
