Kenya is widening its Ebola contact-tracing operation, with cleaners at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Nairobi Hospital staff, immigration officers and members of the patient’s family among those being monitored.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale says the government is tracing and monitoring more people who came into contact with Kenya’s first Ebola patient.
The list includes cleaners at JKIA and Nairobi Hospital, immigration officers and other people who may have interacted with the patient.
Duale says the patient’s wife and mother are also among family members who have been placed under quarantine as health officials monitor them.
The Health CS says the government is working to establish everyone who may have been exposed and is closely following their health status.
Duale stresses that Kenya is not experiencing an Ebola outbreak, describing the situation as an imported Ebola incident.
“We don’t have an Ebola outbreak in Kenya. What we have is an imported Ebola incident,” Duale says.
He says the government is prepared to contain the situation and prevent further transmission.
“We are prepared as a country,” Duale says.
