DCI officer Samwel sparked laughter in court after responding “Corporal Wekesa is above the bus” when a lawyer questioned him over the role of his junior in the Linda Mwananchi case.
A lawyer left members of the courtroom laughing after putting a DCI officer on the spot during the ongoing case involving members of the Linda Mwananchi movement.
While questioning the officer over the roles of different DCI officers in the arrests, the lawyer asked why he was “throwing Corporal Wekesa, your junior, under the bus.”
The officer appeared caught off guard by the question before giving an unexpected response.
“Corporal Wekesa is above the bus,” he answered.
The response drew laughter from the courtroom, with the exchange becoming one of the most striking moments of the proceedings.
Lawyer questions vehicle search
The light moment came during a tense line of questioning over the search of a vehicle linked to the case.
The lawyer questioned DCI officer Samwel about why the vehicle was searched without a warrant.
Samwel maintained that the law allowed the officers to conduct the search without a warrant.
The lawyer then turned his attention to the inventory of items allegedly recovered from the vehicle.
Samwel said he was the search officer and had prepared the inventory.
However, the inventory presented in court identifies Corporal Wekesa as the officer who prepared it.
The lawyer questioned why Wekesa, who did not conduct the search, was allowed to prepare an inventory of the items recovered.
According to the proceedings, Wekesa is a drafting officer.
It was during this line of questioning that the lawyer accused Samwel of throwing his junior under the bus, prompting the unusual “above the bus” response.
