Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has taken a fresh swipe at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, questioning his political strategy ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Kindiki challenged Gachagua over his continued support for the “Wantam” political slogan while, according to him, not positioning himself as a presidential candidate.
“Sasa Gachagua anaimba Wantam, na yeye mwenyewe hasimami kiti ya urais,” Kindiki said, questioning why Gachagua would rally behind another political project instead of seeking the country’s top seat himself.
The Deputy President also took issue with the politicians Gachagua is reportedly backing, arguing that some of them are relatively unknown and lack a track record that voters can assess.
Kindiki posed a direct question to his political rival: why campaign for leaders whose records are yet to be established instead of seeking leadership himself?

His remarks add another layer to the increasingly heated political exchanges surrounding the 2027 elections, with rival camps already positioning themselves and testing their influence across the country.
Kindiki further questioned how Gachagua would influence government affairs if he remained outside government while the leaders he supports took power.
The comments are likely to fuel the growing political rivalry between the two leaders, who previously served together in the Kenya Kwanza administration before their political paths dramatically diverged.
With the 2027 election still ahead, the battle for political influence is already taking shape, and exchanges such as Kindiki’s latest remarks show that the contest could become even more heated as the political season gathers momentum.
